DKS ATC: Keys, Settings & Data
Everything you can press, set and connect in DKS ATC, in one place.
Mouse and keyboard
Press ? in DKS ATC for this list, or Ctrl+K to run any command by name. On a Mac, Ctrl reads ⌘. Keys never fire while you type in a field. The tables below are generated from the same list the scope's keyboard uses, so they always match the app.
Mouse
| Gesture | Does |
|---|---|
| Left-drag | Pan (Shift or Ctrl held, it still pans) |
| Wheel | Zoom smoothly around the cursor (around the followed aircraft in follow mode) |
| Click a contact | Select it (Properties, list highlight) |
| Click empty map | Clear the selection and the measure line |
| Double-click a contact | Lock and follow it |
| Double-click empty map | Center there |
| Alt+click | Measure: each further Alt+click adds a leg, a click or Esc clears (as on the planner map) |
| Right-drag | Measure bearing and range; snaps to contacts (Settings: Measure snap) |
| Alt+right-drag | Measure without snapping |
| Ctrl+right-drag | Hook a BRAA that follows both ends |
| Right-click | Menu for what is under the pointer |
| Shift+right-click a BRAA label | Delete that BRAA |
| Armed key, then click | Apply the declaration; Shift+click sweeps 30 px |
| Drag a data block | Move it; it keeps its place relative to the track |
| ✕ on an open data block | Close it (deselects the track); + on a hidden block shows it again |
| Drag a selected drawing's edge or center grip | Move it (a circle keeps its radius) |
| Drag a drawing's point or + | Move that point, or add one there (lines and areas) |
| Shift+click a drawing's point | Remove it (lines and areas) |
Declare
A declaration key acts on the hovered or selected contact's whole group; to declare one aircraft use its right-click menu (Declare TN …). With nothing selected the key arms: the next click applies it, Shift+click sweeps whole groups within 30 px.
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| F2 · 6 | Declare hostile |
| Shift+F5 · 5 | Declare bandit |
| Shift+F2 · 2 | Declare bogey |
| F3 · 1 | Declare unknown |
| F4 · 3 | Declare friend |
| Shift+F4 | Declare assumed friend |
| F5 · 4 | Declare neutral |
| Shift+F3 · 0 | Clear declaration |
| Ctrl+Shift+F2 | Declare every bogey hostile. Bulk redeclare; one Ctrl+Z undoes it. |
Select and follow
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| H | Hand off the selected track. Offers it to the other controller, or opens Coordination to pick one. |
| Alt+H | Accept the waiting handoff |
| O | Point out the selected track. Highlights it on the other controllers' scopes. |
| Alt+O | Acknowledge the latest point-out |
| N | Write a note on the selected track |
| W | Work this flight. Makes the hovered or selected friendly the working flight, or stops working it if it already is. |
| . | Next group. Threats first, nearest the working flight first. |
| , | Previous group |
| ' | Next working flight |
| ; | Previous working flight |
| / | Search callsign, TN or airfield |
| Alt+Q | Next squawk alert. Selects and centers the next aircraft squawking 7500, 76xx or 77xx, then any holding IDENT. |
BRAA and calls
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| B | Bogey dope. Hooks a BRAA from the friendly (hovered, selected, else working flight) to the nearest hostile, bogey or unknown group. |
| A | Commit working flight on group. Commits the working flight on the hovered or selected group: it owns the group, and the Call deck words the COMMIT for you to say. |
| J | JUDY for working flight. The flight has the intercept: calls about that group go quiet. |
| T | Tune my SRS radio. Opens the Tune bar on your transmit radio with the selected aircraft's frequencies; type a frequency or a name. Needs the SRS link. |
| Alt+1–9 | Transmit on SRS radio 1–9. Needs the SRS link. |
| Alt+Shift+1–9 | Swap SRS radio 1–9 with its backup. Tunes the radio to its backup frequency. Needs the SRS link. |
| P | Picture: focus, copy and acknowledge |
| C | Copy the next call |
View
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| Alt+S | Toggle the sensor picture. Show the other side only while your side's sensors detect it (DKS/2 or Olympus feeds). |
| Home | Center on the working flight |
| End | Center on bullseye |
| Shift+1–9 | Go to a saved view. Views are saved per theater. |
| Ctrl+Shift+1–9 | Save the current view |
| Alt+N | Cycle units (NM/ft ↔ km/m) |
| Alt+K | Cycle coordinate format |
| Alt+M | Switch GCI / ATC |
| Shift+X | Hide or show the hovered track's data block |
| G | Ground view. ATC mode: the focus airfield's surface (pavement, stands, ground traffic and states); again to close. |
| R | Cycle the runway in use. ATC mode: automatic (into the wind) → each runway end → automatic. |
| K | Play or pause. Replays and drills play or pause. On a live feed, K freezes the picture; K again plays it on from there. |
| ← | Back 10 seconds. On a live feed this starts a rewind. |
| → | Forward 10 seconds. In a rewind, stepping past the live edge returns to live. |
| Shift+← | Back 1 minute |
| Shift+→ | Forward 1 minute |
| Shift+↑ | Play faster |
| Shift+↓ | Play slower |
| PageUp | Jump to the previous event. Kills, shots, merges and threats on the scrubber; lands 10 s before it. |
| PageDown | Jump to the next event. Kills, shots, merges and threats on the scrubber; lands 10 s before it. |
| L | Back to live. Leaves a rewind and shows the live picture again. |
| Q | Show squawk codes (hold). While held, every squawking aircraft's data block shows its Mode 3/A code in place of its name. Needs SRS. |

| S | Open the strip board. ATC mode: shows the strips and focuses the first one. |
General
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+Z | Undo. Declarations, assignments, JUDY, renames and BRAA. |
| Esc | Clear one thing. In order: armed declaration → menu → measure → search → selection. |
| Alt+A | Acknowledge all alerts. Stops every alert flashing. Conditions still happening stay in the banner until they clear. |
| M | Marshal the selected aircraft. Puts the selected aircraft on top of the carrier's marshal stack (EAT one minute after the slot below), or takes it out. |
Esc clears one thing per press. While you draw, Enter finishes, Backspace removes the last point and Esc cancels.
Settings
Open settings from the gear in the top bar. Everything here applies at once and is kept in this browser, together with dock sizes and saved views.
-
Display. Text size (0.9× to 1.5×), distance (NM or km, shared with the planner and debrief maps), altitude (ft or m), coordinates (DDM, DMS, decimal or MGRS) and the clock (Zulu, local or mission time). Recordings and drills always show mission time. Bullseye readout puts the pointer's bullseye and working-flight bearing/range in the corner strip (default), in a tag beside the pointer, or both.
-
Controlling.
- Bearings: Magnetic, or Grid/True (see Which north).
- Hide true coalition: never show a track's real side next to your declaration, for a realistic picture.
- Measure snap: what a right-drag measure snaps to: all contacts, only blue (friendly) or only red (everyone not friendly or neutral) as the scope colors them, or nothing. Bullseye and airfields snap unless it is off. Hold Alt (⌥) while dragging to place an end freely.
- Open in: the mode DKS ATC starts in, GCI or ATC.
-
Sensor picture.
- Radar sweep: every aircraft steps once per sweep and holds still in between; with the modeled sensor picture, contacts step to where your radars painted them (see Radar sweep). Off by default.
-
Data blocks. Pick a layout, each shown with a sample block:
- Standard: callsign, squawk and fuel over altitude, speed and type; hostiles show their group and track number.
- Callsign and altitude: one short line per aircraft, nothing on ground units.
- Detailed: callsign and type, altitude with climb rate, then speed and heading.
- Approach and tower: callsign and squawk, altitude, speed and type, then ETA and frequency; ground units hidden.
Every layout shows the full read-out when you hover or select a track. Customize… edits the text of each block (see Data blocks); your edits show as Custom, and picking a layout again replaces them (Undo brings them back).
-
Reset panel layout puts the docks back; Reset all settings returns everything to the defaults.
Alt+N and Alt+K cycle units and coordinate formats from the keyboard; clicking the coordinates in the cursor readout cycles them too.
Data sources
DKS ATC works on Tacview alone; better sources unlock more. The Feed panel lists exactly what the connected feed carries and, for anything missing, why: an older exporter, a feature the server switched off, or data that comes from DCSServerBot instead.
| Feature | DKS exporter 0.3 (DKS/2) | DKS exporter 0.2 (DKS/1) | Stock Tacview | DCS Olympus | Recording | Drill |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Live tracks, groups, calls, alerts | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Human or AI pilot | ✓ | ✓ | unknown | ✓ | DKS exporter recordings only | — |
| Kills (SPLASH) | ✓, naming the shooter | ✓ | ✓, inferred from a weapon next to the removal | ✓ | ✓, inferred like the debrief when not recorded | — |
| Coalition picture (relay) | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | — | — | — |
| Sensor picture | ✓ detections | modeled, radars on/off | modeled, all radars on | ✓ contacts | modeled | — |
| Radar on/off, jammers | ✓ | ✓ | — | radar only | DKS exporter recordings only | — |
| Fuel, stores, radar lock | ✓ | — | — | fuel, radar state | — | — |
| Live engagement ranges | ✓ | — | — | ✓ | — | — |
| Airfields with live owner | ✓, with runways and wind | with DCSServerBot | with DCSServerBot | ✓ | static list | static list |
| Mission drawings and routes | ✓, plus F10 marks | with DCSServerBot | with DCSServerBot | with DCSServerBot | — | — |
| Carrier, weather, player slots | ✓ | — | — | — | — | — |
| Squawks and radios | with SRS | with SRS | with SRS | with SRS | — | — |
| Shared with other controllers | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | — | — |
A server bound to DCSServerBot also supplies airfield owners, frequencies, drawings and routes when the feed does not. Sharing needs a launch from a squadron server; a direct connection by address is never shared.
Which north
The map is drawn true north up. Every number you read or say is converted in one place, so the same bearing reads the same in every panel.
| Readout | North |
|---|---|
| BRAA, bullseye, data-block heading, steers, bogey dope | Magnetic by default (unmarked). On a DCS theater this is the DCS grid minus declination, which is what the cockpit HSI shows. With Bearings: Grid/True it reads the DCS grid (G) or true (T) |
| Bullseye spokes | Follow the Bearings setting unless set otherwise in the Map menu; every spoke prints its letter (090M, 090G, 090T) |
| Runway in use, field wind, carrier BRC and final bearing | Same as BRAA, with the M / G / T suffix |
| Measured legs | The unmarked bearing is the DCS grid on a DCS theater and true elsewhere, followed by the magnetic bearing. The distance is in the same frame, so it matches BRAA. Same text as the planner map |
| Headwind and crosswind | Computed from the runway and the wind directly, so no north applies |
| NAV GRID codes | Same as BRAA |
| Coordinates | Latitude and longitude or MGRS, from the Coordinates setting |
The cursor readout and the bullseye card name the frame in use, for example "MAG · DCS grid (Caucasus)", and the bullseye card shows the grid convergence there. Magnetic declination uses the mission's date, not today's. For missions dated 1990 to 2025 it agrees with the variation DCS itself uses to within about a tenth of a degree; for older or far-future dates it can differ by up to about 0.8°.
Troubleshooting
| You see | Why, and what to do |
|---|---|
| Pick the side you are controlling | The link you followed named a server but no side. Pick one and click Open |
| Only squadron admins can open the full truth picture | Pick Coalition or Sensors, or ask a squadron admin |
| Waiting for the first picture, with a delay | The server delays its Tacview stream; aircraft appear once the delay has passed |
| TRUTH PICTURE badge (amber) | You asked for the sensor picture in a drill. Drills always show every contact |
| No human or AI marks | Stock Tacview cannot say who is human. The DKS exporter or Olympus can |
| No squawks | The server has no SRS configured, or External AWACS Mode is off on the SRS server. The Radios panel says which |
| DCS map styles unavailable | They need a squadron and a known theater; the Map menu says which is missing |
| Shared session unavailable | Sharing is not switched on for this DKS installation yet; your own picture still works |
| STALE, RECONNECTING or LOST | The feed stopped. DKS ATC reconnects by itself; after LOST, use Retry or pick another source |
Something here wrong or missing? Report it in the squadron's DKS bug forum with a screenshot of the top bar and the Feed panel.
